SWALLOWS RETURNING TO THE NEST
The art installation is inspired by the traditional Chinese culture symbol of the swallows returning in the spring, representing rejuvenation and prosperity. The mangrove forest is home to many species, including the swallow, and is also an important natural habitat for reducing carbon emissions in China. The installation is meant to symbolize the recovery of the mangrove forest’s biodiversity and the return to a harmonious relationship between humans and nature in the face of global warming.
The installation includes a laboratory-grade carbon dioxide monitoring system that detects real-time CO2 date and changes the color and brightness of the LED lights inside the 53”swallows” sculptures accordingly. The artwork is made using sustainable materials and features a sturdy carbon fibre structure that can withstand typhoons. Additionally, the installation is designed to float with the tide, protecting the “swallows” from being submerged in seawater and promoting interaction with the natural environment. The installation’s power system is powered by solar energy and features multiple pathways for energy management to maximize efficiency.
